Twitter

current mood: Headache

Mmkay, everyone. I finally caved and got a Twitter account.

Yeah, I know.

Here's the thing: I don't want to be following the lives of shallow celebrities. So I need people from my darling f-list to comment to this entry with their Twitter names.

Me? You can hit me up at http://www.twitter.com/themindisacity

Insomnia blows.

May 25th, 2009 (04:40 am)

It's almost 5:00 AM.

I'm still awake.

Furthermore, I've been in bed for the past several hours.

This is becoming a bit of a trend...maybe I should see someone about this.

Anyone have any sort of sleeping advice?

When you really get down to it, I have the worst birthday date ever. From Nazi dictators (Hitler) to school massacres (Columbine), a lot of bad shit happens on my birthday.

...except that George Takei was born on my birthday. And that's pretty awesome.

P.S. I'm 25 now.

Reno 911...Sadness?

March 12th, 2009 (06:28 am)

Mmkay.

If this (and other) promo pics are to be believed...then Wendi McLendon-Covey (Clemmie Johnson), Mary Birdsong (Deputy Kimball) and the ever-funny Carlos Alazraqui (James Garcia) will not be on Season 6.

This saddens me tremendously. Kimball was a late edition, so she won't really be missed as much, but come on. Two of the original cast members are leaving at once. And what's worse, one of them's Garcia. :(

Given that it's premiering April 1st, and the show has had a history of killing off their characters in season finales (such as last season) and bringing them back at the beginning of the following season...I'm hoping this is a big put-on and that my original deputies are still safe and sound on Comedy Central.

Because...seriously. SERIOUSLY. Not cool, Comedy Central.

Watchmen

March 4th, 2009 (12:20 am)

Got press passes to Watchmen tonight.

I think I liked it. I liked the way most of the narrative was framed, and I thought the soundtrack was great and well-used. While some of the story faltered (and to be fair, I haven't read the comic, so I have no basis of comparison) it is overall a solid, clearly labor of love film, and I would recommend it.

My friend Josh and I went to the theater something like two hours early to wait in line. The theater, which is licensed to sell alcohol, ran some sort of special where one could receive a promotional Watchmen button if one bought a "Comedian Martini." The problem seemed to be that no one at the theater knew what a Comedian Martini was...including the staff running the promotion.

But Josh wanted the damn button. And I was bored.

So finally, after much hemming and hawing, a manager comes up and decided that a "Comedian Martini" was just whatever martini was ordered. And so I stood in the lobby, drinking the worst Cosmopolitan I'd ever tasted...all for a stupid button.

Oh. And they let me keep the glass. Which has a button on the underside of the base that makes the stem light up in four different colors. And it's cheapo plastic. And I just realized that I left it at the stupid theater.

Ah, well. At least I have my R4 card in a semi-functioning state. Scotch tape can only last for so long; I guess I'll have to buy another one. Durr.

OH MY GOD I think I broke my R4 adapter.

I don't know howwwwwwwww. All of a sudden the Micro SD cards don't want to stay in the slot. Which has rendered the device useless, and I don't think I can crack it open to figure out what's wrong.

So now what am I going to play while I'm sitting in line for hours waiting for Watchmen?

I have a new best thing ever, and it is THIS.

That is all. Continue with your day, albeit a tad more enlightened to awesome than before.

(Hah. I just realized that I've posted this on Valentine's Day. That makes it funnier to me.)

February 10th, 2009 (10:08 am)

Okay. I find this more than slightly disconcerting.

This morning, I received five soliciting phone calls in the span of about twenty minutes. My mind immediately flashed back to when my credit card had been stolen months ago.

So I went online to check out these phone numbers. Out of curiosity, I typed in my own phone number...and found several websites which had the same posting advertising credit card numbers for sale.

My old credit card number was in this post, including the card verification number, along with my name, my home address, and my phone number. It's freaking me out.

I'm considering changing my phone number, because apparently the Do Not Call list doesn't mean anything if someone's selling your phone number.

Anyone been in this situation? Advice?

Video Game meme!

December 26th, 2008 (02:48 pm)
Tags:

current location: Internet cafe in snowy Montana
current mood: geeky

Because I'm an utter geek. Ganked from another geek.

1) What was your FIRST video game console?
The Nintendo Entertainment System.

2) Name a few games you played on said console.
Oh man. Most of them, believe it or not. I grew up on Mega Man and Castlevania, but I admit to playing some of the “girly” games, too, plus some oddities like Gyromite and Milon's Secret Castle.

3) Excluding handhelds, how many VG consoles do you own presently?
Hmm. SNES, Sega Genesis, Game Cube, PS2 and Wii, so five. I want an Xbox.

4) Were you a Street Fighter nut? Any character in particular?
No. And no.

5) Do you think Capcom is an awesome company with kickass character designs?
Um. Yes. I like their character designs…but mostly in the Mega Man games.

6) Here's the scenario.. You had some friends over and you all ate FRIED CHICKEN! After the meal you all decide to play some video games. As your friend reaches for a controller you notice his/her hands are very "greasy." Are you the type that would insist they wash their hands before pawing the controller, or is it no big deal?
NO NO NO DO NOT TOUCH. Assuming I let them stay after such a grievous lack of respect for my personal property, they would most definitely have to wash their hands.

7) What's your favorite RPG/Action RPG? I will allow a second and third fave if you insist.
I want to say one of the Final Fantasies. I do. But I think Shadow Hearts squeaked by. So either Final Fantasy or Shadow Hearts.

8) Do you prefer 2D games or 3D games?
Each has their own place, and I play both 2D and 3D games. But seeing as I have an awful sense of direction, I should probably say 2D games.

9) Are you an SNK fan?
Nngh.

10) Are you good at DDR?
It’s been a while, but I used to be. Not up to 8-foot Expert songs, but I did my fair share.

10) Who wants to kick that dog's ass from Duck Hunt?
I thought he was annoying when I was younger. It was only recently that I found out that the stupid dog was LAUGHING at me whenever I missed a duck. All this time I’d thought he was crying. So now I want to kick its ass.

11) Have you skipped out on important events in life because of video games?
Um. Define “important events.” I’ll leave a family holiday party early (read: two hours in instead of, like, four) and most likely go home and pop in a video game…but sometimes these things just have to be scheduled!

12) Do you listen to video game music?
Not as much as some, but sure.

13) Have you ever cosplayed a VG character?
Nope.

14) Have you ever been in an arcade playing a fighting game, KICKING ASS, and then some 6 year old asian kid comes in and OWNS YOU??
Nope.

15) Name three games you would love to see remade if they were done properly.
Final Fantasy VII (it would look much, much prettier now), Secret of Evermore (it really wasn’t THAT BAD, though clearly flawed, and I would like to see what a clean-up and reinterpretation can do for it), and Earthworm Jim (because the series is made of awesome and win, and the enhanced PSP remake was CANCELLED).

16) Mario or Sonic?
It’s-a me, Mario!

17) When a movie shows up in the theaters, let's use Spider-Man as an example, are you likely to buy the GAME version?
Pfft. No. The majority of licensed video games that tie in to movies suck the big one.

18) What is your LEAST favorite genre of video games? (ex. fighting, sports, shooters, etc.)
Sports. I’m not a huge fan of fighting games, either. Mostly because I suck at them.

19) Is there a game out there that you feel was unique and didn't get enough love?
YES. PSYCHONAUTS.

20) Have you ever verbally abused a game because you couldn't beat one of the levels and/or bosses?
No. I’ll yell at the characters, though.

21) Do you own any VG apparel?
A few t-shirts (Mega Man for the win). For a while I had a pendant that came with a video game (Lunar) that I never actually bought, but I’m pretty sure that’s long gone.

22) What are your thoughts on the live-action Super Mario Bros movie?
Amusing as hell if you’re a geek.

23) On that note, what did you think about the live-action Street Fighter movie?
No interest in seeing it.

24) Who the hottest out of the King of Fighters chicks?
I am unqualified to answer this question.

25) Do you say "old-school" a lot when you're having a VG conversation with others?
Oh, sure.

26) Have you ever lent someone a game and they returned it to you damaged?
My cousin (he was like ten at the time) came over for Christmas, and instead of playing one of the child-friendly SNES games, he decided to play Final Fantasy VI. After deciding he didn’t like it, he yanked the cartridge out of the system without turning it off first…and deleted all of my data. I was in the final dungeon, too. Also, last year, my dog ate my Gameboy Advance with a copy of Final Fantasy VI in it. Maybe I just shouldn't play that game anymore.

27) Do you own any imported games?
Um. Hanjuku Hero and a Ranma fighting game come to mind. I imported a copy of FFIV back when all we gamers had was the Spoony Bard version whose script was made of both win and utter fail.

28) Are you ready for this meme to be over, or could you keep going?
I could answer a few more questions.

29) In this scenario, let's pretend you're going to get a video game tattoo! What would you get and where? This can be simple or elaborate.
this one As I’ve never really wanted a tattoo, I’ve never given much thought to tattoo designs. I have no answer to this.

30) Have you ever cried after you beat a game? If so why?
No. Maybe I’m just not that invested. Or maybe I’m just a cold, unfeeling person.
